This is an understatement to what happend to us two weeks ago. Our computer crashed and we lost EVERYTHING including almost all of the pictures of the 6 years of our lives together. Luckily I do have all of Hali's first six months and was very good about blogging many important events in her life, but still there are tonz of pictures that I will never see again. I cried for days and still have a hard time when it is brought up. The reason I am sharing this is if any of you happen to come across pictures of our little family I would love it if you would share them with us. Let me know, and let this be a lesson to you all to back up your pictures.

Have you tried taking it into a computer place to see if they can recover your hard drive? The same thing happened to us about a year ago and they were able to get most the stuff. I can give you their number. I also have all of Halis blessing pictures. I think. Let me know if you need those. Remember I took them from your computer to make those scrapbook pages. I also still have her blessing (I think too).
This has happened to us, too--three times. I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but the first time we didn't know that we could recover everything and we ended up erasing our whole hard drive. The next two times, we were able to recover everything. We also backup to an external hard drive now.
You don't have to pay anyone to fix it. (We erased our drive the first time because Best Buy told us it would be $300-$400 to back it up for us, and I had all of our pictures backed up to CD anyway.) As long as it wasn't a virus, all you have to do is take your hard drive out and put it in another computer. Then you can find all of your files and copy them to an external or portable hard drive. Then you download a thing off of the computer that "bombs" (erases) your hard drive. You run this after you put your drive back into your computer, and then you copy all of your files back to your computer. It sounds more complicated than it really is--but it is time-consuming. Call me if you need any help. Dustin's done this like 6 times now and he can walk you through it.
Lindsey, I'm so sorry! I would be devastated, too. But it sounds like there still may be hope from what Makenzie and Angie have said. Good luck!
We bought an exernal hard drive a few months ago to help us back things up. So much of our lives are on our computers that it's scary to thing you could lose to much!
Oh, been there...I agree with Angie though. It is usually retrievable. I am now a HUGE fan of the external hard drive and use them regularly just in case.
I did that same thing Linds. I know exactly how you feel. It has almost been a year, and I still kick myself for it. Now every time I upload pictures on my computer, I upload them to Picasa. Then that way I will always have them and can see them no matter what computer I'm on. I'm so sorry. It makes me sick that we will never get those memories back.
Holy Cow! I could cry for you!!! That bites! :( I know we have pictures of you guys through the years. I will try and make a cd of pictures for you. Remind me in a few weeks if I still haven't done it. :)
I'm so sorry! i am so scared to have this happen and i would CRY for weeks too. i have a little actually... our computer crashed and we lost about 5 months of last year and it was only 5 months because i had just backed up the rest... so i got a little lucky but it is STILL hard when you loose pictures and know you won't ever see them again. hope you figure it out, and something works as you have been given a little hope it looks like! good luck!
2 of our computers broke. 1 crashed and we were able to recover all the pictures (all of Ella's baby pics!) The other one broke and has ALL of Carly's baby pictures on it from the hospital. You can totally get the pictures off the hard drive. It sounds like your friends know what they're talking about! Good luck.
